Review from Amazon.Com
A very entertaining view of fly fishing for the enthusiast.
For those of you who are either into flyfishing or looking
to begin, this is an entertaining view of the sport
that has a number of short stories. These stories are
inspiring, humorous, and enducational. It is nice to
look up to someone who does the sport for all the right
reasons.

Practical advice along with the humor. I enjoy the author's
often irreverant humor but along with that is a lot
of useful, practical advice. I've often said that we
give fish too much credit. Mr. Gierach points out that
fish are being taken at the same time by fishermen using
significantly different patters and the like. Through
the humor you develop the feel of what is really important
and what really isn't so impotant.

Review from Amazon.Com
One of the best fly fishing titles ever! I was a fan
of Nick Lyons' after reading "Bright Rivers"
and this book just solidified that. Although not a "how
to" book on fishing spring creeks, it does offer
some instruction in the form of the author's experiences.
Lyons' books are similar to Gierach... well written,
funny, witty with a little self deprecating humor, and
A LOT of fishing! Some of his experiences on this creek
are nothing short of amazing. A definite classic.

Description from Amazon.Com
Roderick L. Haig-Brown is one of the world's most beloved
fly-fishing writers. Here, for the first time in a single
paperback volume, are his popular seasons books: Fisherman's
Spring, Fisherman's Summer, Fisherman's Fall, and Fisherman's
Winter. They chronicle a fisherman's year, from the
brightening days of spring through a loving portrait
of the author's home rivers in British Columbia during
the summer, and on into the excitement of fall fishing
and a winter away to fish the great rivers of Argentina
and Chile.

Review from Amazon.Com
Great Essays for all. What I especially appreciate about
this work is that anyone can read the essays and enjoy
them, even if they have never picked up a fly rod in
their life, although fly-fishermen will laugh harder
at the humor.
Each
essay adds a piece of the puzzle to the secrecy of the
life of a fly-fisherman. This art/science/sport is shrouded
in mystery and lore. It is rare that a Master will let
you into his world so intimately. All of Gierach's books
seem to have that 'eastern' feel to them, as if they
could have been written by Lao Tzu. The Essay "Zen
and the Art of Nymph-Fishing" almost brought tears
to my eyes. It is a classic work.

Review from Amazon.Com
This is the book that hooked me on John Gierach. It
all started with this book as a gift -- John's stories
are addictive and now I own all of John's works (save,
"Signs of Life"). If you enjoy well-crafted
short stories, you will not be disapointed with this
work.

Perfect meld of pix and text. Tom McGuane is hands-down
our best fishing writer. His observations are always
provocative and invariably dressed in memorable language.
The surprise here is Charles Lindsay's photographs.
Lindsay does not give us familiar shot of the country's
top fly fishing destinations, as do most tomes in the
photo book genre. Rather he offers a look at the shape
and whirl and textures of fly fishing. He gives us the
trout as it noses up out of the element to take a fly,
or as it leaps from the water, sending a spray of water.
He offers rainbows schooling beneath the surface, the
water purling over rock so that it is hard to tell where
the water stops and the rock begins. A lovely meld of
words and pictures.

More of John's adventures. Archie and John go fishing.
That sums up the book about as well as "a couple
of teenagers fall in love" sums up Romeo &
Juliet. This collection of short stories is a delightful
read and is a worthy addition to any collection.
