Stunningly Beautiful and Informative. Pat Munday has
authored the newest and most comprehensive account of
the Big Hole River in Montana, its people and its culture.
This is a large coffee table book with more than 60
outstanding photographs, 22 historical black and white
pictures, sketches and maps. His account of the homesteaders,
conservationists and how this river needs our attention,
care and nurturing, is most timely as we gear up to
celebrate the anniversary of Lewis and Clark's new frontier.

A good blend of travelogue, US history, and flyfishing
guide. This book accompanied me over the Christmas holiday,
and proved to be an excellent read. The author's passion
for flyfishing is evident thoughout the text. Flyfishing,
however, is not the only dimension to this book. Michael
Checchio also has a keen sense of place, and shares
interesting bits of history, people he meets, and natural
settings he visited during his flyfishing junket through
the Western United States. It reads similar to a travel
journal, so it will appeal to readers who want to know
more about the western states.

Finally a truthful book about fishing in Alaska. Too
often we hear of rivers, bays, and streams that are
so thick with fish that you can walk from bank to bank
without getting your feet wet. As an August / September
visitor to the Wood River System in Dillingham, I experienced
the pleasure of catching seven different species of
fish ... but mainly the mighty silver salmon on the
fly. It was hard work, but each catch was well worth
the effort. Ken Marsh has captured the true essence
of the Alaskan fishing experience ... hard work, late
nights, cold water, bears, eagles and also the experience
that so many from the "lower 48" can only
wish for.

THE BRIGHT COUNTRY is a heartbreakingly beautiful, sad,
hilarious, touching book that flows and burbles along
like a favorite trout stream. I've probably bought 6-8
copies of the book over the years and loaned, given
or otherwise forced it upon at least twice that number
of people. It's not a perfect novel, but is easily the
most honest look I've ever encountered into the heart
of a guy I wish I'd had the opportunity to know. There's
more than a little bit of trout fishing, but this is
a book that hooks non-anglers as well.

Beautifully written and wise. Brook Trout and the Writing
Life is a very finely-written book that is full of wisdom.
I read it in one sitting--and I have never even held
a flyrod in my hand. It's about fishing and writing,
sure, but it's really about living. Nova has lived deeply
and well, and it really shows here. This is a wonderful
read .

Wow! Take me to the river.... This is a classy book.
If you aren't learning, you aren't reading. If you don't
enjoy the view, you aren't looking. In Castwork, we
have a great fly fishing document -- one that looks
beyond the tourist veneer and puts you on the water
with the people who literally live to fly fish, and
fish to live. This book is honest and enlightening,
and at the same time, it cuts to the core of authentic
American character. Like Ruark or Capstick put you on
the African hunt, these guys float you down the best
rivers in the American West with clean prose. If you
can't wait for your next fly fishing adventure, Castwork
will hold you over.
